Most of the bicycles donated into the Luton & Dunstable Cycle Forum's recycling program are pretty predictable: old 10 speeds, mountain bikes and 'bike shaped objects', almost all from the lowest tier in terms of price - and quality.
There is the occasional exception, such as the Kerry children's bicycle that came in last March.
Today, we got something equally unusual: a Bickerton folding bicycle.
We know nothing of its history but it still sports a "Hatfield Cycle Centre" sticker on its seat tube and the original owners' manual came with it too. I'll have to read that.
Meanwhile, we figured out how to assemble it, pumped up the tyres and had a lot of fun.
The headset bearings have gone so the fore/aft movement of the handlebars (I think fairly flexy by nature anyway) added a little excitement to what essentially a "soft", twitchy ride.
Lightweight folding bicycles are popular with people living on long boats. As we live fairly close to the Grand Union Canal and have some connections with people working for various canal trusts, I hope we can find this bike a good home.
